What the Edge Fund is Doing for Affordable Housing In Indianapolis

DJI_0031-min

The importance of quality, affordable housing in Indianapolis is undeniable, as this recent IndyStar article notes. Both Monon16 and Edge Fund were highlighted as well as one of our first new homeowners in Monon16, Jesseca Chatman, and her husband Charles. They share their story and discuss the impact affordable housing options have made on their lives.

For Jesseca, the HomeSmart loan program has allowed her and her husband to live in their desired neighborhood. Jesseca and her husband utilized our HomeSmart Mortgage loan product which allows income-qualified homebuyers to increase their purchasing power while paying down the mortgage more quickly. With Edge Fund, the Chatmans got a discount on the price, as well as a lower interest rate. (Learn a little more about why Jesseca and her husband moved to the Monon16 area and their experience with Edge Fund in their recent highlight.)

“We need more Edge Fund-minded people at the table,” says Jesseca Chatman. As proponents of creating affordable housing opportunities in Indianapolis, we couldn’t agree more, and we’re continually finding new ways to serve this mission.

The Edge Fund would not be able to provide this opportunity for the Chatman’s or any one of our other new and future homeowners without incredible partnerships with Merchants Mortgage, The Re-Development Group, and David Weekley Homes. Having a team of community-minded partners make this endeavor all the more rewarding.

“The funds that are being used to fund the mortgage, repaid by borrowers, are reinvested back into the area,” says King Park Executive Director, Steven Meyer. “It creates a perpetual funding source.”
