Edge Fund’s First Homebuyer, Amanda

Homebuyer Story - Amanda

While many traditional lenders have tightened lending standards and restricted credit access, we’re proud, as mission-driven lenders, to expand access to safe and affordable credit for inclusive and diverse housing opportunities through the Edge Fund.

The Edge Fund, owned and operated by King Park, is focused on offering flexible financial products that will create diverse and inclusive affordable housing opportunities across the housing spectrum.

We got a chance to sit down with the Edge Fund’s first single-family homeowner and borrower, Amanda, who utilized our HomeSmart Mortgage loan product. HomeSmart allows income-qualified homebuyers to increase their purchasing power while paying down the mortgage more quickly.

Learn more about why Amanda and her son moved to King Park and their experience with Edge Fund.

1. Why did you choose the King Park Neighborhood?

While living downtown, my son attended The Oaks Academy in Fall Creek Place and then went on to attend The Oaks Academy middle school. The Oaks Academy‘s mission has always been about reaching into the community to lift up the surrounding neighborhoods. Our time at the middle school campus gave us an opportunity to discover the neighborhoods around us.

King Park Neighborhoods and their partnership with Preenact Indy also helped us to understand the history of the neighborhood. It was not long after that we caught wind of the new and exciting development happening in King Park, on our favorite street. This was the beginning of our journey to the house we now call home.

2. What do you like, love and/or enjoy about this neighborhood?

There’s so much to love about this neighborhood:

  • Walkability
  • Character
  • History
  • The people we’ve met, both old and new
  • The beautiful homes in Monon Trail
  • The enthusiasm for a shared vision that is bringing life to these streets

3. How was the process of buying a home through King Park Development Corporation?

Once we got the ball rolling, it was a breeze. Everyone was so helpful and seems to have a genuine enthusiasm for the growing vision of our neighborhood and surrounding areas.

4. What does homeownership mean for you and/or your family?

Simply blessed. The opportunity for homeownership we’ve been given through this program will be life-changing for us. Not only is this home affordable, but it is also beautifully designed and built to last. Knowing this gives me great comfort and security in the fact that I can better plan for our future. Owning a home gives me a sense of stability and a space to ground myself. I feel proud to be a homeowner and to be part of the vision for our neighborhood.

5. Anything else you want to share?

I think one of the many beautiful things about the King Park partnership is the opportunity it provides to the income-qualified buyer. I wasn’t sure what this experience would be like or if I would like the options available. I am happy to report it has exceeded any pre-conceived expectations that I may have had. My home is beautiful and fits in naturally with the higher price point of the neighborhood. In fact, it’s unique design has made it my favorite house on the block. I am proud to call it my home.
