COMMUNITY

about-history-photo

The King Park area is formed by a collection of several neighborhoods located north of downtown Indianapolis.  These neighborhoods form a welcoming residential and commercial community bordered by Fall Creek on the north, I-65 on the south, Meridian Street on the west, and the Monon Trail on the east.

History

Taking its name from the Martin Luther King park, the King Park area has a rich history in the community.  MLK park was the site where Robert Kennedy gave his speech the night King was assassinated. It has been said that Kennedy‚Äôs speech was so powerful that it abated anger and helped keep Indianapolis residents from participating in the riots that reverberated around the county. The park is home to the Peace Memorial, which honors the contributions of King and Kennedy.
